I am applying for the VivaLasVegaStamps design team and I created the garden wall in this painting using their Decorative Frieze stamp.

I am all about upcycling, so this mixed media painting is on an 8.5 X 6 piece of cardboard that was box divider in a shipment I received. I covered the cardboard with a magazine page that reminded me of a Victorian garden. I painted over some of the flowers to make them stand out a bit more and then gave the entire image a wash of white acrylic craft paint and water.

I found an image of a vintage lady online, but she was standing in a group and part of her dress was covered by another ladies dress. I cut my lady out and then drew a replica of her skirt bottom onto watercolor paper. I could have covered her entire skirt, but I liked the idea of having some of her original skirt showing, so I only covered half. I painted her entire dress with Neocolor II’s to give it more color and conceal my handy work 🙂

I created a garden wall using Creative Paperclay® modeling material and VivaLasVagaStamps – Decorative Frieze. I rolled the Creative Paperclay® out and then embossed it by pressing the stamp into it. I cut out my image and let it dry completely. I didn’t decide to cut it into sections until after it was completely dry, but because it was thin, I was able to cut it with a knife and good bit of pressure 😀

I painted the Paperclay pieces first with a wash of Adirondack alcohol inks (Latte) mixed with a bit of rubbing alcohol and then using a makeup sponge, I rubbed on some Distress Ink (Vintage Photo.) Using a dry brush (only brushing the tops of the embossed image) I painted over the pieces again with Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in Unbleached Titanium.

I stamped over my white washed garden image with a pretty text stamp using Archival ink (black) and then again with a decorative flourish stamp using Distress Ink (Peeled Paint.)

I gave my lady some dimension using Distress Ink (Forest Moss) before gluing her onto the painting and then with a wash of alcohol ink (Latte) and rubbing alcohol after.

I glued on all of my garden wall pieces and painted my quote “She loved to take an evening stroll in the garden” using a wash of black acrylic craft paint and water. Lastly I framed the entire painting with Distress Ink (Dusty Concord)
