I am in Halloween costume HELL! I don’t know if you have been following the drama with me on Facebook or not, but this year’s Halloween costumes are are by FAR the biggest, stupidest, most elaborate fucking things I have EVER undertaken!!!! Every single day I ask myself : “WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING???!!!!”
I am now on my FIFTH attempt at making thse damn costumes, and it’s not looking good. I have tried four other techniques and all of them were utter disasters. I have decided to try and carve the base for our masks our of styrofoam and this fucking Styrofoam has become the BANE of my existence!!!!!!!
I am working with 4 inch thick pieces of styrofoam and I have FOUR pieces of it glued together. I have been hacking away at it with a kitchen knife because the $20 piece of shit Styro Cutter Plus I bought from Michael’s SUCKS ASS!!! I broke down yesterday and bought a Hot Knife from Harbor Freight and I am praying to the Halloween Gods that it does the job. If not, I SWEAR we are going as ghosts!!!!!
~~~One quick note before we get to Thrift Shop Thursday – I have noticed that some of my blog posts have the WRONG video content and I have no idea why. If you go to an older blog post and the video does not match the project, you can always find the correct video on my YouTube Channel. I apologize for any confusion and I will be working on getting it corrected. ~~~
On to happier news – the thrift store has FINALLY put out Halloween decorations and I am sooo excited! I went a little crazy this week and bought several items for my collection of Halloween goodies. Come along with my on my trip to the Thrift Store and see what I got 😀
It was slim pickin’s at the thrift store this week!
I searched for over an hour before finally choosing an item. My camcorder died before I found my item of the week, * totally NOT because it was plugged into the camera but not the WALL* so you don’t see me actually FIND the item, but you can watch the rest of the shopping trip below. Plus I also show you a few of the other things I have picked up at yard sales and Michael’s recently.
Stay until the end for a cute outtake 😉
Wanna know what I got at the thrift store this week???? Watch and seeeeee 😀
After two weeks of being sick and 11 straight days of laryngitis, I am finally feeling more like my self and I have be back in my studio creating and finishing several projects.
One of the projects I was able to complete is the Steampunk Mask that I started a couple of weeks ago. I found this mask at the thrift store and I *immediately* knew what I was going to do to it! You can follow the full journey of the mask by watching the Thrift Shop Thursday video and then the Steampunk Mask Part 1 video.
Just to reacap, I sanded the entire mask and gave it a coat of black craft paint. I molded a TON of gears with resin and painted all of them black as well. This weeks video shows you everything I did after that 🙂
I painted the mask with gold paint and painted all of the gears with various metallic paints. I embossed a piece of metal tape with an embossing folder and then painted it with a few washed of black paint and water. I tore the metal tape into random pieces and stuck them to the mask.
Finally, I added a couple of layers of gears, a spring and a miniature lightbulb with E-6000.
The mask already has a small gold hook on the top, so this is perfect for hanging. I totally LOVE this project, so I haven’t decided if I want to offer it for sale or keep it for myself!
If you like this project, how about sharing it with your friends 😉 You can also subscribe to this blog and my YouTube channel, that way you won’t miss any of the absolutely FABULOUS projects I share in the future *wink, wink*
On this weeks Mixed MEdieology Monday, I am using the items I purchased on Thrift Shop Thursday 3/7/13. If you missed it, you can find that video here.
This fairy girl is painted on a little shelf from one of those cheapy, pressed wood cabinets. I made her wings by coating a butterfly stamp with glue, then stamping it onto acetate.
Here is a list of supplies I used;
acrylic paints – quin magenta, orange, white, turquoise and light blue perm
gelatos – black
meocolor II – black
papers from note pads
distress ink – faded jeans
acrylic ink – flesh tint
Welcome to mixed mEDIEology Monday!
This weeks project is the first collaboration of Thrift Shop Thursdays and mixed mEDIEology Monday. If you missed last weeks post, here is what you need to know…
Each week I will be making a (video) trip to the thrift store. I will then use the items I find on Thursday to create a project to share with you on Mondays. If you want to see what I got this week, you can find that video here.
This weeks project is a mixed media painting. I am soooooooo tired of the cold weather and Spring can not get here soon enough for me! I need warmth, sunshine and lush things growing.
One of the bags I bought at the thrift shop last week was a wooden model of a truck. The round pieces I used in this painting were “supposed” to be truck tires, but I saw them as flowers, so I painted them, glitterfied them and stuck them in a Spring Garden!
